MUTATE BRITAIN: ONE FOOT IN THE GROVE

Completely agree with this man's opening statement. This is a gallery I would of loved to go to as a kid. Really inspiring. No big fancy walls, no security guard wondering round, no hushed tone like in a library.

who undercurrents are

Coldcut - Panopticon (Official Video)

I love this. Really arouses emotion in the viewer. Video footage, music and audio sound samples. Like a musical, visual, news report or documentary.

Wild Horses of Newbury

Another undercurrents video.

Road Blues music video

Watched the undercurrents videos a few years ago, probably 10 years ago! And I feel in love with them, the people and causes and they way were doing things.
I've just bought the video activists handbook by one of the founding members of undercurrents. Now all I have to do is find time to do all this reading!

I Wanna Live Here

Melanie on The Johnny Cash Show

Brilliant woman.

Bloody Twins

Ingmar Bergman - Interview (1/6)

Brilliant man.

The Indigo's - Serpent Rouge at Tribal Fest 7 part 1

I think these girls are amazing. The first couple of girls are great and really funny. Zoe who is on second is fab too. I've never seen anything like it before. It's called Tribal fusion. Really interested in performance too. All the different art's complement each other.

Bought myself this book on Amazon. Some really weird and wonderful stuff in here. I particularly like the work of James Jean, Mode2, and Amy Sol.

Been looking at this book, want to have a more interactive, touchy feely element to the things I make. Some nice ideas and techniques in here.

Wouldn't mind doing a stop frame of the increase in chaotic mess that happens in my living room most nights. Must get some proper work surface sorted out.

Handmade Nation: stop animated opening title sequence

Re-blogged from Laura @ http://raiseyourhandraiseyourvoice.blogspot.com/

A thought.. or two.

A thought.. At the exhibition it would of been so much easier if we had a kind of business card to hand out with our contact details on.

Also, I could of developed some of my old work for this project, since our aim was to get together and produce stuff to sell.

some cushions

Some examples of cushions I found on the web.

Exhibition Opening. Our first stall .

Well that was a great night, and I can't think of a place I would of rather been, with our first stall, than with our friends at Best Joined Up. The work done was phenomenal as always, really inspiring.

Within moments of of us setting up two guys from Test Space came to have a look at the stall. They cave us their contact details, took ours and said they would be really interested in us having a stall at an event they are doing in the basement of crash records. They were really exited to play on the games consoles, and wanted us to bring them to the event too. It's a shame we couldn't get a power supply to them on the night. Next time.

We had fun too after the nerves had settled (with the aid of the free wine on offer!) We also sold some stuff which was really encouraging :)Laura and George had fun at the table playing word games and took a great picture of two happy customers. :)

There was a caravan there doing a live radio broadcast from inside the caravan! genius! I didn't really want to but somehow ended up doing a little interview. God now's what I said at that point in the evening.

I had to do a little helping out with stewarding and earlier in the day I had been painting boards white for Brodie which was really cool. Glad to be involved and able to help in some way :) although I nearly got a frown on when asked to mop the huge floor! I don't even do that at home!

So where next?!

http://archive.sensesofcinema.com/contents/directors/03/gilliam.html

I just posted this here to save and read later because it's going to be a very busy day tomorrow. Into college, to The Templeworks to help out, back for a shower and then to the opening for 7. So early night for me.

Templeworks website.

Location of the exhibition and info.

Craft Addics facebook group

Laura set us up a face book group "Craft Addicts"
Bodie saw some of the stuff we have been making and really liked them. He asked if we had a spare portable T.V. he would bring his old Atari down for folks to play on. We all thought this was a great idea and George and Laura though it would be good to bring their old games consoles down too. A Sega Mega drive and Nintendo 64. This interactive side to exhibitions really appeals to me.
Speaking of quotes for cushions.. I also like a line in a song by Donovan "I don't want your freedom in a lie) A line in a song by Damien Rice, and lots, lots more. A fellow craft addict lent me a book on cushion making too so watch this space!
This facebook group made me chuckle :) If I do my cushions this quote is going on one of them!

A sneaky peak at what will be on show on Friday at the exhibition. Photos by the artist replete.
Been down there today painting some boards white for the live art. Moving sand bags around and putting them on to the frames for the boards so they can't fall. The building it's self is really interesting. When it was built it was said to of housed the largest room in the world. The architecture is amazing.

Going down to The Templeworks on Thursday, with the girl,s to help Bodie set up for the exhibition.

Too Little, Too Late? Part 1 of 8 - Introduction

Some really interesting/scary/inspiring debate. Think it runs with 10 parts, well worth a listen. Why they don't show thins stuff at schools I don't know.

Living In The Future

CocoRosie Interview

Went to see Cocorosie at the cockpit, they were fantastic! Really inspiring :) Thought I would take my camera down and try my hand at a bit of gig photography.

Don't Panic.

http://www.baat.org/art_therapy.html

I find this really interesting. Not a profession i want to get into, but I do believe some kind of creative outlet is really good for you. When I make something I am communicating, I try to communicate thoughts and feelings about "life the universe and everything" that I find hard to put into words.

Don't Panic could be a good quote for one of my cushions. :)

I love West Leeds Festival.

Laura got in touch with the guys from I love West Leeds Festival and we went down to help out and got involved in a community recycling project. Was nice to see people getting together and having cups of tea chatting and being crafty! good also to here about how they run it where the funding comes from etc. It was just 2 or 3 hours a week and the finished work will be on exhibition... soon.. have to find letter for the dates. I was interviewed for a video at this event.

finished gig poster for designing for audiences brief.

This was a live brief for a benefit to raise money to help save The Royal Park School. I really enjoyed doing this and being part of such a fantastic event organized by Crok Mcrok, with some really well known bands playing too! The evening was great and raised £800 for the School.

Just been reading the meanings of names on some web sites. The girl name Tahra comes from the Celtic word which means, "Earth or growth.."

Cool :)

Sylvia Ji.

I have treated myself to some books I have wanted to read for ages.

I got;

Small Is Beautiful by E.F. Schumacher.

Silent Spring by Rachel Carson.

and

Video For Change (A Guide For Advocacy And Activism)

Best joined up, are putting on an exhibition on friday 21st May at The Templeworks in Leeds showcasing all the work produced on the live nights and promoting the works the artists do outside of their time at best joined up.

Really exited about this because I really love the work that goes on down there, the people are good and its a really inspiring environment.

I'm also still taking photographs for them at their live events and some of the pictures I have taken will be on the slide show at the exhibition. Some of the pictures I'm really pleased with and others are really rubbish so I have mixed feelings about this, it will be a good way to get a feel of all that goes on down there. But I wont be able to pretend I'm a fab photographer cos I get the odd good snap now and then! but I'm learning and having fun so what the hell! I Might insist on a little editing of the pics next time though, good ones only! ;)

Had a few random photography lessons from some really shit hot photographers on nights out too which has been really valuable and really cool, talking with them. People are really nice and really helpful. Also making an effort to remember not to drink too much when out taking photos for them, is good professional practice. Although I will have the odd night where I leave the camera at home. Would like to pick up the pens one day. down there... mm...

For the final project we have asked if we can get a little stall down there to perhaps sell the stuff we have been making and Bodie seem's to be cool with that. :)
I've been looking back at the things I have posted, it seems as though i have been looking mostly at videos. I'm sure that I haven't. So i need to start making an effort to document some of the other stuff I've been checking out too. Blog looking a little boring. Also I haven't documented anything I have done. So...

So here is something I've been working on for my final project for this year. Working together with Two friends George and Laura, we wanted to stay away from computers for this project as much as possible and work in a group rather than alone. This has taken a bit of getting used to, actually penciling friends into our diary's times, dates and places to meet up to do work. Its been great though getting together and really just chilling out making stuff. :)
